Do What You Love With Passion!

It's been said that if we do what we love, it stops being a job and becomes a passion. I love to write as much as I love to design jewelry. With this blog, I will share both with you!

SECOND ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION!

SECOND

ANNIVERSARY

CELEBRATION!

June 1st - 30th, 2014

Dear Reader,

LAREN DEE DESIGNS is two years old!

I am happy to have a shop on Etsy.com, appreciating its web quality for shop fronts, shipping and behind-the-scenes support for shopkeepers.

Not just a place to shop, it is a place where I have made friends with suppliers of jewelry findings and artists of beautiful handmade beads from around the world.

I use Etsy as my personal go-to choice when shopping for gifts for family and friends. I love the vintage goods that remind me of what was available during the 50s, 60s and 70s or finding the uniqueness in today's creative and talented artists.

Last year I purchased a set of vintage Corning Ware, white bowls with blue cornflower pattern, to replace ones I no longer had and add a few missing glass lids, as well. Making a nostalgic search for kitchenware literally took me back in time and memories!

With Father's Day just around the corner, I was Etsy shopping a week ago for husband Bob. I was amazed at the availability of items, finding vintage automobile ads that specifically relate to his  hobby, restoring 1956 model Pontiacs. Here is one I purchased:

When we began dating in 1976, he was working on a 1956 Pontiac Star Chief convertible. He did a beautiful job on the body, painted it a soft green and bright white (original colors), had seats and side panels reupholstered and a new convertible top made. He still drives it to this day and loves that car. Here is an example of that model in this magazine ad copy:

I ordered ad copy that I found from four different vintage shops, each around $7 in price. Bob is going to love the one pictured below as he is currently restoring his station wagon. He bought the car for $400 many years ago, stock in colors of dark green and white, exactly as shown here:

Here is the fourth ad copy I purchased with the same wagon pictured in red and white. Look at all that chrome! I love these classic vehicles!!

He drove his station wagon for many years and finally began the restoration process. Engine and front body are removed, as shown in the photo below. He has been stripping the body down to bare metal, doing necessary body work to repair dents and dings. When this is completed Bob will begin the rebuild with new interior, paint and engine. I took these photos about three months ago:

Rather than buy the typical inexpensive black frames to place the ad copy in, I took a look at Etsy picture frame shops. After several conversations with the owner of one I really liked, I selected their barn-wood style frames, paint color and sizes needed. As soon as they arrive, I will glue the prints to matte board and gift wrap in time for Father's Day.

While looking through those vintage auto goods for ideas, I also found a shop that makes clocks from vintage hub caps. I could not resist and ordered the clock pictured below. It is made from a hub cap used in Pontiac models 1955-57. I know Bob will be thrilled!

Bob is a walking-talking encyclopedia of vintage car knowledge and I cannot wait to give him these gifts. For a man who deals with bi-polar illness and often struggles through the day, a man who gives all he can to his girls and grandchildren, who gives of himself each day to me, he is deserving of being recognized for the caring and thoughtful man that he is!

Bob has always been enormously supportive of my own shop on Etsy, watching me grow, be inspired and creative. It is a joy to celebrate this second anniversary at LAREN DEE DESIGNS and I thank you for your support and friendship.

Thank you for reading and have a great day!
